Human Rights in the Quran

Dr. Riffat Hassan
Islam is deeply concerned about liberating human beings from any kind of bondage. God is aware of the human tendency toward dictatorship and despotism. Thus, in the Glorious Quran, which Muslims believe is the word of God, we can read what means,

{It is not (possible) for any human being that Allah should give him the Book and wisdom and prophethood and then he should say to humankind, "Be my servants rather than Allah's," but (he would say), "Be you faithful servants of the Lord by virtue of your constant teaching of the Book and of your constant studying thereof."] (Aal`Imran 3:79)

Islam & Human Brotherhood

One of Islam's most important characteristics is its concept of humanity. This is highly evident in Islamic legislation, philosophy, and other facets of the religion as well. Islam promotes the concept of human brotherhood and the equality of all humans. It maintains that all humans are the children of one man: Adam, and that we all share the same lineage. This outlook informs two central concepts in Islam: brotherhood and justice, both of which will be addressed below.

Islamic Brotherhood:
the most perfect brotherhood of all times

"I arrived as a stranger, and as an alien to this strange new culture. People were strange to me, and I already was aware of the cultural clash. After all, I was a Muslim of Arab blood; two forms of identification that would not prove to be popular in the Western world.

I went to a talk hosted by the Islamic society in the town. I met that night about five or ten Muslim brothers. Sometimes, I think that it is a shame that cults have taken to calling their members brothers, because it seems to cast a stain on the word. Nonetheless, in Islam, all men and women are of one family, be they Muslim, Jew, Christian or other.

Racism is one of the severe diseases of human society in this age. Everyone remembers how black Africans were transported across the oceans, packed in specially designed ships, thought of and treated like livestock. They were made slaves, forced to change their names and religion and language, were not entitled to hope for true freedom, and were refused the least of human rights. Because among some Western people the attitude to non-Westerners has unfortunately changed little in modern times, the political and social condition of black people often remains, even where they live amid the native Westerners as theoretically equal fellow-citizens, that of despised inferiors.

Human Structure in Islam: Equality, Brotherhood, Unity

  Equality, Brotherhood, Unity

From Adam and Eve humans have the same divine message delegating same rights and same responsibilities: men and women alike.
Muslims have the same rights and responsibilities toward God and each other. They all are subject to the same reward and punishment in accordance to their deeds.
While justice and equity underline the foundation of the Islamic Umma the best humans in the eyes of God are those who are most pious.

Brotherhood in Islam

 Brotherhood in Islam

The importance of brotherhood in Islam can not be over stressed. There are many hadiths relating to the fact the Muslims are a single united body, each part responsible for the other. Accordingly if one of the parts is injured or hurt then the rest of the body immediately feels that pain and is certainly uncomfortable at the situation until it is rectified without delay. The brotherhood of Muslims is a very deep and wide concept that guarantees the safety and well being of the Society at large. Islam being a complete way of life is primarily for the society, it promotes a healthy and a well disciplined life style in every sense of the word.

Islamic Brotherhood

Islamic Brotherhood
 By Khalid Baig

"The Believers are but a single Brotherhood." [Al-Hujurat 49:10]
"A Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he leave him at the mercy of others." [Sahih Muslim].

The Islamic Brotherhood is not based on economic interests, race, or color. It is based on something infinitely superior: Rejection of falsehood and acceptance of the Truth as revealed by the One True God.
